Dr. Tabitha E. Thompson, LCSW
Executive Director of School-Based Mental Health and Wellness
Biography
Dr. Tabitha Thompson is a dedicated advocate for high-quality early learning experiences and mental health awareness, with over 25 years of experience spanning Social Work, Mental Health, and Education across California. She previously served as the Preschool–Third Grade Inclusion Coordinator in the SCOE’s Early Learning Department, where she champions the expansion of inclusive educational settings throughout the state.
Dr. Thompson's extensive career is marked by numerous leadership roles. She has served as the Elementary Education Director in the Elk Grove Unified School District and held several key positions in the Twin Rivers Unified School District, including Early Head Start/Head Start Director, Elementary School Principal, Preschool Coordinator, and Elementary Counselor. Her commitment to child welfare is also evidenced by her time as an Emergency Response Social Worker for both Sacramento and San Diego County Child Protective Services.
Academically, Dr. Thompson holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master’s degree in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. She is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Further sharing her expertise, Dr. Thompson serves as an Adjunct Professor at Sacramento State University, teaching courses on Child and Adolescent development.
Effective September 23rd, Dr. Thompson will assume the role of Executive Director of the School-Based Mental Health and Wellness (SBMHW) department, where she will continue her tireless work promoting the well-being and inclusion of all students.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Thompson enjoys traveling, attending music concerts, and cheering at sporting events. She and her husband of 25 years are proud parents to two adult children and share their home with two dogs. She values spending quality time with her wide circle of family and friends.
