Clinician II, School-Based Mental Health and Wellness

Biography

Erica Gavidia (She/Her/Ella) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with her Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) and Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) specialization. Erica serves as a Clinician II, or Clinical Supervisor, in the School-Based Mental Health and Wellness program within the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE). Erica provides reflective supervision, coaching, and thoughtful challenge to Associate-level clinicians, helping them build a strong ethical foundation and deepen their clinical intuition. She is known for creating a supervision environment that balances challenge and accountability with encouragement, transparency, and deep respect for developing clinicians. Her clinical philosophy is rooted in humanistic, relational, equity-driven, and trauma-informed practice, with a strong social justice lens. She is committed to the social work value of dignity and worth of the person, and approaches supervision and care from an anti-carceral, decolonizing, and strengths-based stance.

Erica's path into the field of social work began with lived experiences that shaped and opened paths to the field of social work. Erica began her career in education, as an AVID tutor and within student support frameworks. Erica then found herself in the world of non-profit work supporting the development of internship program guidelines during an internship. Erica was introduced to school-based mental health during an internship, providing mental health services to students at their school sites. Following graduation, Erica stepped into the community-based mental health realm and provided mental health services to children, youth, and families across Los Angeles County. Erica transitioned back into the world of education, returning to schools as a school social worker supporting TK-4th grade students enrolled in a Title 1 school. Fast forward to 2023 when Erica relocated to Sacramento and found the opportunity to bring many worlds together, mental health and education, as a clinician within the School-Based Mental Health and Wellness program, to shortly after promoting into a clinical supervisory role.

Erica began her higher education journey at a community college, transferring to California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) where she graduated with her Bachelor’s in Human Development, with minors in Criminology and Psychology. Erica continued to earn her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Southern California (USC). Erica is continually exploring how systems shape people’s lives—and how healing, integrity, and transparency can move us toward more just and humane spaces.

Erica grew up in Encinitas, a city in North County San Diego, moved to Los Angeles and currently resides in Sacramento. She is a Californian through and through. Erica is more than a social worker, she is a wife, a daughter, a sibling, an aunt, and so much more. Erica enjoys spending time with her loved ones, playing a round of disc golf, trying new food spots or enjoying favorites, and watching documentaries, horror films, playing board games and laughing whether it be at a movie or stand-up comedy.
