Biography
Dr. Beatriz Alcazar Alvarez is a licensed clinical social worker and educational leader committed to advancing equitable, integrated mental health systems in schools. As Director of School-Based Mental Health and Wellness, she leads countywide initiatives that connect education, health, and community partners to ensure students and families have access to comprehensive and culturally responsive supports.
With over 15 years of experience across educational, clinical, and nonprofit settings, Dr. Alcazar Alvarez is recognized for building sustainable infrastructures that bridge medical and educational service models. She began her career as a psychotherapist and school social worker, providing direct clinical services while leading efforts to remove systemic barriers to mental health access. Her leadership has been instrumental in implementing large-scale initiatives that strengthen fiscal and operational systems, expand service delivery, and elevate the quality of care provided in schools.
Before stepping into her current role, Dr. Alcazar Alvarez served as an education consultant and program developer, supporting districts nationwide in embedding trauma-informed, restorative, and equity-centered practices. She also collaborated with local systems across California to establish foundational structures for student wellness, professional learning, and staff well-being.
Dr. Alcazar Alvarez earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from California State University, Sacramento, her Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and her Bachelor’s in Sociology and Multicultural Studies from Sonoma State University. She also holds professional certificates from Harvard University in Health Care Quality Improvement and related disciplines focused on systems transformation and organizational excellence.
